In the almost eleven years since a nearby strip of land, euphemistically referred to as a “garden,” opened to the public, I’ve never seen a Stork-Billed Kingfisher even fly through the area. Fifteen years if I count the times I visited there when it was undeveloped secondary scrub.
I think it’ll turn out to be a one-time appearance, as the man-made water features, euphemistically referred to as “ponds,” are mostly dead from construction runoff, with only a few turtles and monitor lizards. The area is already overcrowded with Collared Kingfishers fighting for turf.
Whatever the case, it was a welcome sight today.
