Couldn’t quite figure out what the problem was with the CL and Sigma’s ~45% hit rate yesterday until I got to the field again today with the CL and R glass. The better APO stuff can “see” more nuances in its field of view than most any other glass I’ve owned/used.
Heat shimmer rising off a grassy field on a sunny or bright overcast day is a given here. But what I saw was not heat shimmer; and judging by the amount of “rainbow” in the liquid on the ground, a lot of petroleum has either been dumped in the area or come through the seawall from the literally hundreds of cargo and container ships in and passing through the area.
Far fewer birds on the mud flat and field yesterday should have given me a clue. I’ll take their cue. Habitat shrinks again, with migration season just around the corner . . . 😟
