Today I spoke with two people in the camera business, one well-placed, about when we might expect the successor to the CL.
The well-placed source, in a position to know what he’s talking about, told me that there is currently no successor to the CL in the works. He further indicated that Leica’s APS-C format had not done as well as had been hoped for.
I took what he said literally, without trying to read further into it: that is, no CL2 on the way, nothing more.
Later in the day, I asked someone else in the business about the CL2, and he told me that it was his understanding that Leica has no intention of bringing any more products to the APS-C market.
Come to think of it, the last new product introductions in the line (other than special editions and Sigma’s trio of lenses) were in November 2017, when the CL and the Elmarit-TL 18mm were introduced.
Ok, so it’s taken me three and a half years to catch on. No problem, my latest copy has plenty of warranty left!
