Now we know . . .

. . . why Canon stopped Viltrox from making RF-mount autofocus lenses. Their 85mm f/1.8 beats the crap out of Canon’s 85mm f/2.

Lucky I was a month or so ago to rescue a copy from a shop that aready had it packed up to return to Viltrox following Canon’s demand. Finally with a chance to shoot it on full frame the past couple of days, it’s pretty impressive, especially considering its modest price point.

Head to head, the RF 85mm f/2 might resolve about the same wide open, but in contrast, light handling, and color rendition, it’s trounced soundly by the Viltrox. The only remaining question about the third-party lens is durability. And only time will tell . . .
