One day I’ll learn . . .

. . . maybe . . .

Being cheap can get expensive. My zeal to “teleconvert” almost any telephoto lens I get my hands on has had mixed results over the years. Maybe with the most recent instance I’ll finally learn.

Problem is, the Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/4 gets an amazing amount of detail even with the 2X attached, but the small amount of veiling flare becomes obvious on bird feathers. An example follows this rant diatribe post.

There’s a glazed-over look that is distinctly un-Leica, which is probably why the TC is not certified by them.

Oh, the other thing about the 2X (not a problem with the 1.4X) is that it’s dark glass. Anecdotally, shutter speed seems to drop by almost three stops, not two, when it’s added. F/8 is fine. Dark f/8 is not when picking critters out of foliage.

Anyway, I should have my hands on the Panleica 100-400mm by mid or late next week. I think it’s not compatible with the m43 1.4X, so maybe I’m safe…

. . . this time.
