. . . well, only for a minute . . .
The Telyt-Module 280mm f/2.8 I mentioned the other day was in my hands today for a short while. I’d never actually seen one in real life until today, and it’s actually much more compact than I’d imagined.
It’s also prohibitively heavy, but can be fine-focused with the left little finger and hand-held for sharp shots at around 1/FL speed. A few indoor shots aren’t nearly enough to form an opinion about IQ, but I do believe the much lighter 280mm f/4 generates a bit more peaking cues, helpful when an extender is added.
It could probably be managed with a monopod, and its top handle might make it less daunting to move about with. But even at its modest asking price, both the SL 90-280mm and 280mm f/4 would be far more practical options.
Had I listened to a wise friend, I might have added an SL2 for additional reach and IBIS instead of a second CL. An SL2 could have been sourced locally, too, while the CL sits idle in Shenzhen until China decides to stop pouting.
Whatever option turns up, at this point I am certain that it won’t be anything made in, sold from, or which must pass through that country. Whenever politics impacts my photography, I can always find
other better options . . .
