The Masked Lapwings are always a welcome sight. They were on the lower level of the stepped seawall this afternoon. I walked down to get a few shots and then look for plovers. A couple of them watched me pass, but they didn’t seem bothered in the least with me in their midst.
After I was a good forty yards down the beach from them, I heard a mild commotion behind me. They took to the air so gracefully, did a loop around the shoreline, then all of them landed around where I was standing. I took a few more shots and continued on my way.
Maybe I look like someone who’s fed them before? Whatever the case, their trust in me is a most precious gift.
